Your assessment is correct. Also going way too low. Buy the book, lots of good information on how to low bar squat in the squat section.
Unless you’ve had a serious shoulder injury in the not-too-distant past, you probably have sufficient flexibility to get into the right position. Simply practicing getting into the right position will help with flexibility. It’s an uncomfortable feel if you’ve never done it before. As previously recommended, the book spells all this out, and the videos on this site are helpful as well.
