Self explanatory really-feel like I’m totally overdoing the knees out looking at the right ankle.
Weird thing is they all felt good (apart from messing up my breathing on the last rep or so).
Also, if I don’t shove my knees out this much the dreaded “top of the thigh/hip” pain comes back(?)

Just realised it’s not a great angle but I’m limited by the confines of my puny UK garage-I’ve checked again looking from the top down and my knees track way outside my toes when I shove them out hard. It’s less of an issue when I take an almost exaggerated wide stance so maybe that’s the answer…

Like Rip said, not a great angle. It looks like your stance is already a bit on the wide side, so I don't think going even wider is the remedy.
How about a normal stance and just not shoving them out as hard? Or think about just not letting them collapse in rather than actively shoving them out?

Well I certainly don’t think I’m “too flexible” but I seem to struggle with knees forward AND out at the same time as hips back. If I narrow the stance I don’t feel any stretch on the descent whatsoever…
