Leg Movement During Chins
What amount of leg movement, if any, is acceptable during chins? Obviously kipping is unacceptable. During my set of chins, I find myself wanting to slowly raise my legs (with my knees pretty straight) as I get closer to the top. As I descend I mostly relax my abs, return to a dead-hang, and then repeat.
Is this level of slow, non-explosive leg movement permissible, or do legs need to be perpendicular to the ground throughout the entire ascent?

Very strict chins are wonderful, but I count mine by ROM at the shoulder: from straight arms at the bottom to touching the chest to the bar. I use knees-up momentum to start the movement, and rebound off of the full stretch at the bottom.

Thank you, Rip! That’s very helpful.
