Age Related Macular Eye Disease/Dry

Any old folks get this diagnosis - Age Related Macular Eye Disease/Dry? My optometrist gave me the word Thur that she saw the beginnings of "drusin(sp)? in the macular region of the eye. Since my dad had the whole center vision blindness thing this is (another) shit! moment.

Anyway, if anyone has experienced this is there any other approach to ward off blindness other than the vitamin/mineral mix of AREDS 2?

My Aunt who is 88 was diagnosed with macular degeneration about 4 years ago. I belive it was the wet type. She was seen by a retina specialist and given injections in the eye every 6 weeks for a year. Since then she goes for an exam every month and it has been stable and has not had any problem .She tells me if she closes her good eye she can still see with the affected eye,just that there is a black dot . She has been taking OTC eye vitamins, not on doctors orders. I am not sure if the really help,but are not hurting.
