I just ran across this article on SS: Physical Training Against Brain Aging | Guy Forer
Very interesting and motivational stuff, written by an engineer and so not too much opaque medical jargon, and people who like to get into the details could use the footnotes to look up the research. Just wanted to share it on this part of the Forum, since the article is all about older folks and how to resist losing our brains as we age. Here's a quote to maybe intrigue you into reading the article:
There is a considerable body of evidence that shows that resistance training and aerobic training are both important for cognitive and brain health in the elderly. While progressive resistance training is better at increasing anabolic hormone levels and relieving oxidative stress, aerobic training is more significant than PRT [progressive resistance training] in other aspects, such as raising certain nerve growth factor levels. Both training modules increase brain volume and improve cardiovascular effects considerably.
Hmm. Interesting article. Thanks. We are on the right track.
