Digging that for sure, because just doing the regular version of a lift at a med/light weight can make me feel lazy or just not enjoyable.
I very much like this too. Andy suggests the same thing for folks that have the temperament of wanting to push, but wanting an outside restraint like what you get from these squat variations. Same thinking with the rack pulls vs. light deadlifts, me thinks. The idea of certain lifts being unable to induce the same systemic stress unless you go full retard with volume was one of the things I learned with Andy's last program and it definitely shows up here as well.

Are all the squat and deadlift variations done beltless ?

They tell you which lifts to do with or without a belt in the ebook.

Why are rows included but not cleans or snatches?

It says to do "most" squat variations without a belt in order to reduce the weight. No such words are mentioned for deadlift assistance work. I don't see why the logic about unbelted squats doesn't apply to deadlifts too though.

Yeah, unless you have an issue, the point is to do some work at loads less than the parent lift. It's in the article for the GSTT

I don't think it matters much.

For sets across, presumably you have to choose a weight which is the target intensity for the final set eg 3s x 5r squats ?
This would mean all prior sets would have to be at a lower than target intensity ...

Can't the programme authors confirm all these points ?

The RPE IS the target intensity.

So you may or may not use the same actual weight on all sets. It will be sets across for some folks, ramping sets or descending sets for others...and it all depends upon each person's readiness THAT day.

Total sets and reps are the only constant.

Because it's not an Olympic lifting program and almost nobody actually does power cleans in our target demographic.

My default is to do all assistance work beltless unless there's a previous back injury.
