I asked a similar questions about Wichita Falls in a different thread but did not go to that seminar, so I apologize for squandering that recommendation.

Does anyone have any general recommendations for traveling to Woodmere via car?

A brief internet search shows that driving through traffic in NYC is shit and I should expect to be sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic for a while.

For example, google says it will take me 7.5 hours to get from Akron OH to Woodmere by car. I will theoretically arrive in Woodmere at 1:30pm if I leave Akron at 6am. How accurate do you think that will be? If I end up in 4 hours of traffic, I will be late to the seminar.

Traffic should not be bad going through the city if you get there in the late morning or early afternoon. It starts to get bad around 3:00 pm.

I wouldn't cut through Manhattan if you can help it. If you have an EZ Pass this trip is going to be a lot better.
Take GWB then cut across the Bronx and take the bridge over to Queens and cut across there. That's one option.
