Nice job getting that last rep on the press.

I appreciate that, Mac. I've done more, but I think I was more proud of that rep than anything in the whole session. I tried to get a little Tommy Suggs style in there.

I've been thinking about my bench. I'm going to bring my competition grip in a few inches. Not like a CGB, of course, but I'm thinking I can generate more power from a more narrow grip. Can't wait to test it out. Crap. I have to wait until Monday.....or next Thursday actually :-(

Grats on the nice bench PR!

I was thinking, you could mess with different boards and see how that goes. 2 boards might be right at that spot where you don't get much more out of it than regular bench. If you are looking to really overload your bench one day, try 3 or 4 boards.

Either way, keep up the great work. I see 3 wheels in the near future!

    Very nice!

Such a round number you are bumping up against. 300 will be big!

Thanks Les! I really appreciate the advice. That's a great idea. I might do that sometime when I have a partner after the meet. I can't imagine trying to stuff 4 boards down my shirt, lol.

Thanks, Oldster. It's a fight to the death for every 5 pounds on the bench these days. I think some of your wisdom may be rubbing off on me. In the not so recent past, I would have been stubborn and skipped past 295 to try 300. I keep telling myself, "I have time." It's not like I'm going to be pausing 300 at the meet anyway :-)

Default Friday, 08/24/12 - Heavy Squat, Volume Power Clean

Well, I guess I've had too many PR's this week. I had 1 Monday, 2 Tuesday, and 1 Thursday. Today was pretty crappy, but afterwards I thought about all the PR's this week, and recovery might be a bit of a factor. I wanted to max out again today before I start my lighter work next week. I took in some extra calories yesterday in anticipation and had 3,088 with 301g pro, 264g cho, and 101 fat. I wanted to go high carb, but the burgers we grilled last night killed that. I had the same late breakfast as always today at 70/63/17.

My plan was to PR my unwrapped squat at 430 and then add wraps for a 15-lb PR at 455. Then I was going to do my regular work set for 370 AMRAP, aiming for 6. I bombed out on 430 and then just decided to keep the same weight for a wrapped squat...maybe get a double, who knows! Turns out I hardly had anything in the tank and even bombed out with wraps. I actually had to go visit the toilet after this attempt. It's been a long time since I've used wraps, and I'm not sure if I even got anything out of them.

I know some would say you can't have your wraps too tight, but I wonder if there's a point where they are so tight that they actually distract from the lift...if that makes sense. I also pulled my belt all the way to the 5th hole! That was also new, and I'm not sure if I could even get my breathe properly....some like their belt that tight as well. I'm not sure if it's best for me. I'm not making excuses, I'm just thinking through all the various factors.

I backed down to my work set at 370 and decided to wear the wraps 2 revolutions looser and put my belt back on the 4th hole. I was really drained and just gave up after 2 reps. Like I said...crappy session.

    Squat
    170x5, 215x5, 260x3, 345x1, 385x1, 430x0, ...added wraps... 430x0, ...loose wraps... 370x2

    Power Clean
    135x3, 155x3, 165x2x6 on a 1 min clock
I was wiped, but I still love power cleans :-)

Also sad is that this session, as short as it looks, took 1h 40min, haha. I spent over an hour on just 8 sets of squats, but there was the knee wrapping, etc. Oh well, if I look at the week as a whole, it wasn't that bad.

never used wraps, but i always cinch my belt down as tight as it will go. I need to drill new holes though I am on the 9th and last hole.

You'll smash 430 next time man!

Thanks, man. I may upload that video. 385 was so smooth, but the power switch just went off on 430. Yeah, I'm not really sure about the belt tightness thing. There's always a lot of variables to consider when things don't go well, and it's hard to pinpoint one.

Next few weeks, I'm just going to get.....stronger.
