"Let me be great." The Road to 1000 total and beyond
Gonna log my training on here, too, I guess. I usually hang at powerliftingtowin.com but figured why not, plenty more lifters here to help me out as well. Where do we start?
I'm a 15 year old kid from Chicago, weighing 140lbs, planning to compete in the USPF in the 148 men's sub junior class. Been lifting for about a year now. Best lifts are a 205x5 squat, a 120x9 bench press, and a 275x3 deadlift. I also can do about 10 chinups, if that's relevant.
Ive ran Starting Strength, Powerlifting to Win's Novice Program, Candito Linear, went through one week of Westside for some stupid reason and didn't like it, and now I'm on a custom Greyskull LP routine I tweaked specifically for powerlifting.
My main goal right now is to break the record total of 840 for the USPF 148 mens sub junior class.

I'll be following your progress for sure. Could you please post your Greyskull LP routine?
Also, when do you plan to compete? Good luck man.

WORKOUT A
Bench Press 2x5, 1x5+, then a heavy paused single
Squat 2x5, 1x5+
WORKOUT B
Bench Press 2x5, 1x5+, then a heavy paused single
Deadlift 1x5+, 75% of top set for 1x10
A-B 3x a week you know how it is...
Also chinups everyday
And I plan to compete in summer 2015 in a meet hosted by Lance Karabel in Chicago.

Good luck.
Why not do the heavy single first, then do 2x5, 1x5+ as back-off? Would be much more efficient.
-
Kinda wanted to do a Joker Set kind of thing.
-
Do a search for "over-warmup" - the heavy single first has some advantages and I think they're applicable to your situation. I don't think the joker set works as Wendler intends unless you're cycling the rep ranges a la 5/3/1.

Interdasting. I might do this after I get my lifts up a little.

You got PPST3? It's the best investition you're going to make for your training career, besides The Book.
Doing the heavy single at the end won't benefit you nearly as much as doing it at the start. Neural priming and all that shit.

What gym do you train out of in Chicago?
-
Lincoln Park Fitness Center right now. But I usually train at my school gym.
