Default Did I Jack Up My Texas Method program?

So I'm following the Texas Method program as outlined in PPST v2.

Specifically, I have a question on pressing.

In the book, you rotate a two week cycle.

    Week One:

    Monday: Bench 5 x 5.

    Wed: Press 3 x 5.

    Fri: Bench 1 x 5.

    Week Two:

    Monday: Press 5 x 5.

    Wed: Bench 3 x 5 (use 90% of last monday's weight.)

    Friday: Press 1 x 5.

    So here's my question...

When you press 3 x 5 on your recovery days (Wed, in this example), are you supposed to use 90% of your 5 x 5 weight, just like the way it's recommended for bench press? I don't believe it says to in the book but I don't see why you'd do that for bench and not for press.

    Thoughts?

I was under the impression that the weight used for the 3x5 press on recovery days is to be the same weight used for the prior week's 5x5 volume day. The reason for this is that the bench is the main movement being trained for that week and the press trains the same primary muscle groups at lighter weights and a different range of motion.

You are correct, sir. I've since edited my post. I've been doing that a lot these days. I think the toxic metals in my protein shake are leaching into my brain.

You are supposed to use the chart to determine a "light" weight. This would be around 70% of your 1RM if I remember off the top of my head. I also thought that it was only two sets of five not three. The purpose of the day is to recover and preserve the neuromuscular pathways to prepare for the intensity day.

Just looked it up (finally got my PPST2 returned to me) and it looks like fnet is right. The example in the book has the guy using the same weight for the press 3 x 5 day as he does on the press 5 x 5 day.

Thanks man. Knew I was doing something wrong...

Actually you are supposed to raise the weight for the press on the recovery day, do 3x5 and use the same weight for 5x5 on the next volume day.
