    Hello all! In my current understanding of strength programs, progression goes like this: beginning with a program that one gains strength on a daily basis, like starting strength; then goes to a program that one gains strength on a weekly basis, like the Texas method; and eventually ends with a program that one gains strength on a yearly basis, like the Westside Method. Problem is, I have only heard of one concrete elite program, Westside. Are there any other programs at the elite level like Westside, and can you describe them in detail? Also, feel free to enlighten me if my understanding of strength programs is wrong. Thank you.

    until you need to use elite level programming, i wouldn't worry about it

    Elite athletes do not use general template programs. They need individualized programs. This is covered in Practical Programming.

    You are correct in that programmed progression goes from workout to workout, to weekly, to much longer time frames as one progresses.

    It also however becomes more specialised and individualised. The novice is the only trainee for whom a 'cookie cutter' one size fits all program exists (SS). At intermediate and beyond there is really only templates like the Texas Method that can be adapted to the trainees goals e.g. Powerlifting, bodybuilding etc.

    So there is no real elite programs as an elite lifter's program will be extremely complicated and 100% tailored to their specific needs goals and recovery ability etc etc.

    Westside as I understand it is more of a philosophy, training 4x a week with upper and lower body max effort and dynamic effort days.

    Westside is a gym.

    However, as discussed above, Westside philosophy is based on 4 sessions per week, two upper body and two lower body, one of each being dynamic and the other max effort. However, there is no program (so far as I know) entitled "Westside". There is WS4SB and probably a variety of others, though.
