    Hello,

I started using the starting strength program in January of this year and stopped around July as I felt I was no longer making the progress that I was expecting of myself. I weighed 165 at the start in January and weighed in at 210 at the beginning of this month. Since the beginning of this month I have not been training or eating as much as I was due to life events but would like to start training and progressing again. My first time around the Starting Strength program I followed the program pretty rigidly until about the 6-7 month mark where I started to spend a full week on one new 5RM. Eg.) I got to 240 on the Squat and it took me a full week to move up to 245, similar scenarios for all my lifts. I'm not entirely sure what happened but my progress stopped being as regular as I would have like and so I figured I needed to switch up my programming, so I did. I switched to the PHUL program and I am much less satisfied doing these workouts compared to Starting Strength, albeit making some small progress after not working out for a while. I would like to go back to starting strength as I feel I could see more progress this time around. So, The question I have is, is there any reason for me NOT to go back to doing Starting Strength again?

Age? Short answer is yes. Restart the LP. You'll probably find you will take bigger jumps in the first couple of weeks then you did first time around. If you didn't before video your sets and get form reviews. Assuming your not 70 you should have finished stronger than you did given your size, particularly with the weight you put on. While your re-doing the LP read (or re-read) PPST3 advanced novice section. That being said, if your under 50 something had too be wrong with your form or your program compliance to finish where you did.

Sorry jbrophy, I am 22 years old. I admittedly was performing the high bar squat (not anymore) and was doing Rows in substitute for my Power Cleans as I was/am not confident in my form. At this juncture I will restart my SS training program from the very beginning.

After reviewing the links you posted Mark, I can see there was two significant failures in my approach; my diet and my rest times. I appreciate you linking me these two page. I will restart the program from the very beginning at this point.

    Thank you both,
    Grady B Dimond
