    Default Hight of the bar

    • starting strength seminar december 2024
    • starting strength seminar february 2025
    • starting strength seminar april 2025
    How high do you place the bar on your back.
    I think I have been putting the bar way to low and somehow did not feel it.
    In SSBT, figure 2-17 seems pretty low but figure 2-20 seems totally different and much higher.

    Perhaps you have any cues for the right bar placement.

    Focus on your back bearing the weight not your arms and shoulders. I believe that's the point. Optimal muscle recruitment. Dont hold it up there with your arms. Wedge it onto your back with your arms as pins. Thumb less grip, elbows out. It's gonna look a little differently on everybody, considering we're all a little different. Get your three angles correct, and just move things around until you get there.

    I actually should rest below the spine of the scapula. I don't think I would ever want any sort of load resting on a bony prominence like that.

    I will try to squat with a thumbless grip tommorow I guess that will get the bar into the right position itselfs.

    If you squeeze your shoulder blades really hard it creates a stable shelf on top of your delts. It becomes obvious where the bar is supposed to go as that is the only place it fits.

    Are there any negative aspects about holding the bar too low?
    I mean it seems pretty stable to me with a thumb around grip and if there are no side effects why even bother changing the thing.

    Too low and the grip becomes an agonizing hell for the inflexible. And also the thing ends up being held in place by forward lean. And also the amount of forward hip bend in the hole to maintain balance is higher. And also the thing eventually becomes a slip and slide when you do multiple reps.

    I'm a supporter of the "deltoid shelf" concept.
