Looks like I'll be doing a bit of traveling this summer, and spend a few days in each of these places. I'd like to squeeze in a workout or two while I'm there. I'll be in the University of Edinburgh area, and in downtown Toronto. Just looking for a place with a squat rack and a reasonable drop-in fee, open in the evenings. Preferably within walking distance. Any recommendations?

Downtown Toronto is a pretty big area, probably need to be more specific.

There are plenty of Goodlife's and whatnot around. There is one right in Union station where the entrance to the GO train tunnels is. I don't know about drop in prices but I'm sure you can research that online. Again if you have a bit more specific location someone would probably have a good one they know of.

The University of Edinburgh has a pretty good gym with some strong lifters there.

Good point. I'll be staying near Ryerson University, and the meeting is in the Sheraton center.

Trainer's fitness at Bathurst and Bloor is pretty good and not too expensive.

The only hard core gym I know of, very small place but set up for SS(old school style like rips joint)
Catch the subway to Bloor and then go east to Pape or Jones,
tons of Greek Restuarants west of Pape with massive Souvlaki's
for recovery. For pleasure there are lots of lonely Greek girls with big bums.

U of T's gym is good. 4 squat racks, oly lifting platforms, air conditioning, chalk, etc. But it costs something like 12.50 for a drop in.
