Heh! I've seen some used ones that are cheaper, but the new ones are pretty pricey. They come in real handy when you got a bunch of people lifting. It makes the transition real fast. But I think the cheapest one I ever saw was about 1k, so it is a big investment. But if the whole family is working out together, it might just be worth it.

Are there any safety components to a mono? All mono squats I've seen have 2 squatters and I don't think my training partners (family) would be willing or able to spot, especially if there is only one partner. I feel I need either a power rack or squat rack with safety bars since I lift at home. Actually 1k would be doable if I knew it was lifetime... but a solid power rack or squat rack ought to be lifetime too, right?

btw, Callador, nice 600 lb squat. Didn't look like too much of a gm to me. Strong.

Good questions. You can walk the weight out like a normal rack, so you don't necessarily need a person to work the rack. For safety devices, we have crates on the side of our monolift (check my gym vids to see it). Otherwise, you can get safety straps for them. They pretty much look like tow straps. In a way this is better than pins in a rack. Sometimes if you crash a good bar into the pins, you can spring them.

A good power rack is a great investment too. It can just be a pain in the butt to change out the bar. But the other side of the argument would be that you could use the power rack for other stuff (rack pulls, etc.), where the monolift is more limited in how you can use it. But if you have 6 people squatting, the monolift can make the transition much faster. The height adjusts with a hydraulic pump. And like in my meet squat vid, the racks can go in and out too.

Thanks for the kind words! :-)

    Yeah.

I've never even used a monolift, but a garage gym with a monolift would be god damn epic.

One of the lifters where I train is building a monolift attachment for the power rack. If you have access to a metal shop this could work.

If your rack is deep enough, buy another set of J-hooks for the back side, and another barbell. My rack is deep enough to hold two bars. Two people couldn't squat simultaneously, but could easily be done by alternating sets.

It's seriously not a big deal. Just buy another set of J-hooks if you need to. My gym only has two full racks and the rest are squat stands. I can run a big group of people through at the same time.

It's not a big deal if you have a power rack, which I don't.
