Advice on using wrist wraps to help with sprain?
Hey all,
I recently bought a set of wrist wraps. I've had nagging pain in my left wrist for a few weeks, and it's increasingly affecting my workouts.
I'm not exactly sure how I first hurt my wrist (feels maybe like a mild sprain), but the pain is particularly troublesome during the press. Interestingly, it's almost non-existent while benching.
Whatever first aggravated my wrist was probably a one-time deal as I've never had any issues before, and since then it keeps popping up during workouts. I've begun paying even more attention than usual to my wrist position during the press, which has helped a little, but I'm not sure that was the problem to begin with.
The thing is, the only way my wrist seems to feel better is by resting it, but I can't very well take an indefinite break from the gym, especially since my workouts are okay overall. I bought the wraps hoping that they would help me press without pain while my wrist heals, by keeping stable.
I was wondering if there is any particular advice from the coaches about how I should use the wraps (placement, tightness, etc). Have any of you successfully trained/coached through something like this?
Sorry for the long post, and thanks for doing what you do.

Wrist's are kind of tricky. I would get an X-ray if it's been bothering you for more then a couple of weeks. You may have a fracture. I've used wraps to train through wrist pain before but I think it is kind of an individual thing. Do what ever takes the pain away. I had the most success with leather wraps. I kept having to adjust the heavier cloth ones during the workout and it was a pain in the ass.

Thanks for the advice, Nick. I'll probably make an appointment to see the doc this week.
