Alan Thrall says you don't actually build muscle on SS and the reason your lifts go up is just because you are learning how to do them with correct form. Is this true?

Yes, the weight gain is nothing but undigested pies and the need for new clothes is because, as we learn the skill to lift with correct form, we forget how to wear clothes that fit correctly.

The waters are muddied on this. You build a bit of muscle, but nothing spectacular. That happens once you get a solid footing in training and can begin to apply higher volumes of work.

It's some combination of increased muscle, neuromuscular recruitment and improvement in motor pathways.

He said Greg Nuckols did a great job of explaining things in a clear and understandable manner!

    I stopped there.

Alan has some good info, but much of it has the air of somebody who thinks he knows more than he does.

On an unrelated note, he teaches a hip clean.

Find out for yourself. Start by reading the book. Get a DEXA scan now and then get one when you finish the program. Let us know the results.

Where did you learn this? And if this is the case then what are those tens of kilos of body weight we're supposed to gain during this program?

Yep. Zero muscle growth. All the novices we've coached who put 200+ lbs on their LP work set weights haven't gained a single ounce of muscle. Not one.
