Yep^ I have an S2, R3, and use to have an RML-390F. The RML is badass, but the 3x3 makes walking out a clanky affair and it's pricy. If you're going to build a platform, you might as well by the R3 and just screw it into the platform. The S2 is great for saving space, but you really outta just get a rack.
I also own an R3 and built my own platform to bolt it down into. Very happy with it - no complaints at all really. I am intrigued by the Titan HD rack everyone talks about, though.
Hey Austin,
From your Instagram page, it looks like you have your R3 bolted to a smaller platform. What are the dimensions and how did you construct the platform?
Also, Rogue recommends to bolt the R3 to the concrete, as this is more secure than bolting it to a platform. Does your R3 seem to be pretty solid?

You're right but I would add that R3 takes less floor area than S2.
I would take S2 anyday in the week tho. I just like it stands more than racks or rigs, it looks more minimalist. This sounds extremely dumb but could someone tell me what's the benefit of racks over stands? Provided I bolted them to the floor, with safety arms and a chin bar like S2.
Rack benefits:
- added safety in the event of a catastrophic squat failure (say you pass out or stumble). It happens. basically, with stands there is a risk, albeit remote, of failing behind the safeties. Then you're fucked.
- superset logistics & options
- banded pulls (think of heavy deads banded from the top, these are effectively rack pulls but with the ROM and motor pattern preserved (kinda).
I'm sure there are others
A rack could save you if you have a freak accident and fall backwards, such as in the following video.
