    Ripp posts a pubmed study that says the exact opposite: 1/4 quarter no good for jump performance.

    I'm assuming Rip is referring to the study that compared quarter squats and full squats on a smith machine? With the same exact weights (weights used should be much heavier on quarter squats) .

    EDIT: Yup and the weights used were the same for both groups.

    The subjects were college-age football players averaging a weight of 190 lbs, claimed 40m in 4.7, but a 1RM "parallel" squat of 280. This tells me all I need to know about their training.

    That they're stuck in collegiate S&C programs? Which means they are not getting by on genetics only.

    Also, keep in mind that the average SVJ in the smith machine study was 38 cm (15"), while the average vertical jump in this study was 76 cm (30"). The SVJ gain was 15%, or 4.5" for these athletes. Perhaps full squats can help people who are just overall shitty more than joint angle specific training?

    don't know. I linked the thread and posts . . .go read.

    Even if so 'smith machine and stupid loading' . . . . I'm sure the new pro 1/4 squat study has a bunch of flaws in it . . .
