The Press with Cubitus Valgus
Hi
I am 40 years and I started training 5 months ago.
I have a congenital Cubitus Valgus. The forearm is angled away from the upper arm (about 30 degrees). Never had any elbow pain.
When I train the Press the lockout position looks somewhat strange: while my upper arm is perpendicular, the forearm/bar looks too much behind because of this elbow angle.
Sorry for my english, hope I could explain it adequately.
Can this be a problem?

That's a good question, and I don't really know the answer. I have some conjectures, but never dealt with it in an actual lifter who I've coached so not sure if my guesses are worth anything. I'd guess that you could start, start light, progress slowly, and let pain or discomfort be your guide. I've seen some people with pretty screwed up structures do some amazing things in lifting. But I don't know (and didn't look up) the details of this condition beyond it's basic presentation, so could be completely off base, and it could have some contraindications. I don't know.
Maybe someone in the peanut gallery has some experience or knows more about it.
Are you benching? If so, how is that going?
