You’re too skinny. You’re “glommy” fat – to use Rip’s colorful term. You feel weak. You couldn’t lift your own furniture so you had to spend money you don’t have last time you moved. You get out of breath climbing stairs.

    You know something is wrong...

Great article, Zach - well done, and thanks for writing it.

It brings to mind Charles Duhigg's concept of the keystone habit, a behavior that pulls a host of other practices into line. Strength training has absolutely been that keystone pursuit for a lot of us.

Thank you Zach. Great article. Reading this forum (Rip’s “Covid” thread) in late 2019 and early 2020 was a game changer for me and absolutely influenced me to make certain decisions that I am extremely happy about 4 years later.

Great article! I'm not sure if lifting starts all this "self improvement" stuff, or if it is a (necessary) component of it, but it's definitely true that I've been thinking more critically about our current "Western culture" and have come to appreciate more traditional values as well. Paradigm change, indeed!

A third book by Dr. Kendrick, Doctoring Data, shows how much science is actually done today - it is simply bought and paid for.

Thanks for the positive feedback, guys.

Really, many things can serve as the "keystone habits" Jason mentioned. For us, it's lifting.
