Rip gives a rundown of basic standards of behavior expected in a civilized gym, including equipment handling, respecting a lifter's visual field, and chalk use.

One thing that I detest even more than people not re-racking the plates is people who rack them in an inverted pyramid, putting the smallest plates on the pin first, then the medium-sized and finally the big 45s on top of it all.

I used to train at a college "fitness center/weight room". There was a campus cop who would leave stacked 100# plates on a leg press machine. These plates had no beveled edges so it was no simple chore to get them off and impossible for the little blue haired women who were usually at that machine. I started to confront him one day but he always seemed to be an inch away from a pistol whipping roid rage event so I just continued to remove the plates for the grannies.

I'm sure we can all add to the long list of things that folks do that break unspoken rules. Without trying to derail this thread, I would add, folks who would set up mini circuits around the gym. Example: Using the Squat Rack, then running over to the Lat Pull Down, then a 400 meter jog on the indoor track, to the Bench, and repeat. Like, what equipment are you not using Dude would be a better question as it seems you are using all of it!
