I like this. Should you fail the attempt, down you go. Let me guess, he wasn't really putting it over his head, more like in front of it, right? Although the best are straps for the bench because the person doing it is a dumbfuck and should they become pinned without spotter, they are mostly likely going to die.

I actually saw someone benching with straps the other day. I'm really confused as to the purpose of that.

Dumb shit happens in home gyms as well, fortunately there's a camera handy to catch this ridiculous lift and its immediate scoring by the judge.

A professor on another forum offered this in response to a similar situation (except it was a SMITH MACHINE strapped bench press):

Clearly, it's so he doesn't throw the barbell straight through the ceiling.
.... Yes, I occasionally save posts I find hilarious.

Ha. Could the Smither have also been mentally-strapped?

This weekend at 24Hr Fitness, I saw a dude step out of the freestanding squat rack, with an empty bar at the hang behind his back. For a brief moment, very brief, it occurred to me that I might see some version of a behind the back deadlift, that I've read about in Louie Simmons articles but never actually seen anyone do. But no. He proceeded to wrist curl the bar--a behind the butt wrist curl. That was a new one on me.

I've been seeing that one a LOT lately, whereas I don't think I've seen one ever prior to last month.

I recently saw a guy squat with the usual crappy form. The thing is he unracked and re-racked the bar backwards. I watched with a mixture of apprehension and amusement as he stepped backwards with a weight he could barely handle standing upright (nevermind squat), turn his head to try to find the hooks and then go into lumbar flexion to lower the bar onto the hooks. I nearly shot a disc out of my own back just watching this scene.

I use the rack backwards, There's a mirror directly in front of the rack at my gym.
