Now that I think about it, vegetarianism has a lot in common with CrossFit. There are non-rational motivations compelling both behaviors.

The only thing that vegetarian arguments do for me is make me hungry for steak.

Actually rippetoe cows are impregnated constantly with their calves being taken away (the male ones slaughtered) and are weakened early from the stress of it all so then are slaughtered after 5 or so years. I know it's all light hearted but I don't find it funny that so many animals are emotionally and physically abused for their entire lives. Yeah I drink milk ideally I'd like to be a vegan but I'm just not willing to commit to that lifestyle right now. I don't think it's either no animal products or all animal products. Some people make small changes, as spar said at the end of his post

Can someone explain what's lacking from a VEGETARIAN (not vegan) diet that makes strength training less effective?

"I can't understand the psychology behind this vegetarian bashing"

Humans are meat eaters. Hunters and gatherers. To not eat meat is to be less than what you can be.

Not one sentence of this post is factually correct, except for the one where you want to be a Vegan.

    Maybe it's the red meat?

Humans aren't supposed to shave, go to gyms, sit in chairs or use computers either. What we used to be has no bearing on what we should be today. Also how are we designed to eat meat? Have you seen our teeth (no sharp front teeth, molars for grinding veg)? What about claws to kill prey with? I hardly think our genetics realised we would use sharp sticks when we were evolving. Also carnivores perspire through their tongues

Err.. what ? Cows only produce milk when pregnant/after given birth, so cows are required to be constantly pregnant otherwise no milk. Male calves can't produce milk so you think they're set free ? Why would they waste meat

That completely negates my argument ?

What in the red meat? Clearly you're not the kind of guy to just believe whatever he hears, so what are your reasons?

I will not waste time arguing with a vegetarian, any more than I would waste time arguing with Jehovah's Witness. It was fun a long time ago, but vegetarians are non-rational, as I said above. Eat your oatmeal and have fun with your convictions. If Jamie has time to waste, he's certainly welcome to try to make you smarter.

Damn (some) of you guys are cranky fucks!! Try to help the poor bastard by degrees. If he drinks milk maybe he'll throw in extra protein powder, maybe an egg or five. Maybe he could substitute oatmeal for some of the veggies and fruits and throw in ground up nuts (no, don't go there). The point being that there is plenty of protein to get him to raise his muscle mass and hopefully that will cause his hunger to embrace the animal. But at least try to help a stupid bastard who comes to ask questions constructively -- a little. It seems some people are only answering after a drink or five.

Are you talking about this guy?

Kregna: Actually rippetoe cows are impregnated constantly with their calves being taken away (the male ones slaughtered) and are weakened early from the stress of it all so then are slaughtered after 5 or so years. You think I'm being cranky? You think he deserves a 3-page explanation of human physiology/evolutionary biology when he is actually just concerned about the emotional well-being of cattle? Or are you talking about the OP who hasn't done his homework? Let me explain this to you, since you're new. We've been here since 2007, the thread count on this board is 5400, with 42,000 posts. Most things have been discussed before, and more likely dozens of times. Including this shit. It is incumbent on you new guys to look before you ask, or you risk getting fucked with. If you don't like to be fucked with, don't ask questions that have been beaten to death already. I do this free, I am busy with other shit, so try to not piss me off with your first post.

Cows eat the grass we can't and then we eat them for those nutrients.

Are there any hunter/gatherer cultures that are vegetarian? I really don't know, but I don't think there are. My point is...get rid of the big corporate farms and the "cruelty" to animals and look at what humans eat when all they can eat is what they hunt/gather and you'll see meat.
