    Dear Mr.Rippetoe,

    I hope you're well.

I was just looking into some routines, i.e Ed Coans, Kennelleys, and I noticed some similarities between them...

These two in particular cycle over about a 10 week periodized phase, slowly reducing the amount of work done over the 10 week period till working up to a new 1RM.

Often, you start at 8 sets and over a 10 week phase, work down to 5 sets, then 3 sets, then 2 sets, however the reps remain constant at 3!
In another program, the sets may stay constant at 2 sets, but over a 10 week phase the reps work down from 10, then 8, then 5, then 3, then 2 and 1.

My question is this; does perodization work better when tweaking with the sets or with the reps, and what is the difference? Which do you think would work better?

    Thank you.

    Kind regards,
