Thank you for sharing such a great story.
Thank you for sharing such a great story.
This is good Mark, but I suggest there are still other demographics that could use your help also and those being (as I said once or twice before) in injury prevention and rehabiltation of injured workers. I do not know how OH&S in the States works, but here they try to remove dogy lifting practices in the work place by showing types of lifts to prevent back injury, however fall short of the idea of an overall strength training program as the best way to avoid work related injuries.
Well, maybe you are already doing this, anyway a very good presentation.
Impressive. She can now bench without Carmen guiding her.
This is so Texas and therefore American that is heart wrenching and tear-jerking. Sending now to my tough German-farmer mother.
At that age, you DESERVE a glass of wine. If you just finished a strength training session you deserve two.
This is awesome.
I want you to know that your work with this population is much appreciated: my Mum will be 85 in July and recently started deadlifting - I made her some small apparatus for Christmas 2014 so she could manage it at home and taught her the movement.
I sent her a link to the video about Gus and she had this to say:
"What a lovely lady!! And what she says runs parallel to my experience too, which I shouldn't be surprised about. My balance has improved greatly. There is a way to go but I am on my way. I no longer use my walking stick and my cardio-vascular state has improved greatly. My arms are much stronger, etc, etc. So good luck to her... I hope she keeps it up."
She was already training with a little kettle bell (I think she uses a ~6lb one) and had been for about 6 months, so her improvement is not solely down to the deadlifting, yet the deadlift weight is significantly higher (30lbs currently, and importantly, being increased each training session) so I feel this is providing more of a beneficial stimulus than the kettlebell.
Regarding seeing videos of this nature, Mum says: "And if you find any more videos of oldies doing this stuff put me in touch with them please. I love watching them. Makes me feel I have company!"
Thanks again for your important work!
