I'm trying to formulate some sort of rebuttal to this but there is none. You don't choose what you like and you haven't said it's a bad movie. Your position is unassailable. There's nothing to disagree with. I can only say I'm surprised.

it took my mom about 10-15 years of persistent encouragement to get her to watch Shawshank Redemption. She had it in her head that since it was written by Stephen King, it was gonna be a scary horror movie. I kept trying to explain to her that Stephen King is a great story teller and that this wasn't a horror movie.

When she finally sat down and watched it, she was stunned at how much she enjoyed it.

I feel that Rip might be making the same type of error here, though I could well be wrong.

I think Rip knows well that straight up refusing to watch a film that many people consider the 'best of all time!' is going to drive people nuts in a way watching it and saying he didn't like it doesn't.

And for the record it's on my all lists of most emotionally satisfying films, the film equivalent of grandma's chicken soup.

You don't watch The Shining any time it happens to be on?

    I don't think he's under the impression that it's a horror movie.

Just finished Jacob's Ladder. Not horror in the Exorcist sense, but still one of the most truly disturbing and fucked-up movies I have ever seen. Be sure to watch the documentary for important clarification if you are confused after you watch it, as you might be.

I've never found King's material to be scary. I think some of it is decently written, but not scary. But this one creeps the hell out of me.

jeeze. When I watched this, I cringed and laughed at the 2:16 scene. For once I agree with all the youtube comments.

I just watched Manchester by the Sea, and it was one of the most disturbing, depressing movies I have ever seen. It easily bests The Wrestler as the most depressing movie I've ever watched.
