First time?

I recently downloaded the Letterboxed app, and it's really helped me find some hidden gems. I've been doing a deep dive on 70's flicks lately, and I've been going through a lot of Charles Bronson and Clint Eastwood's "less popular" titles.

Killers of the Flower Moon is a bewildering film. I can't understand how Scorsese has been making films for almost 6 decades and yet can still turn out such a bloated and formidable mediocrity.

Watched "The Lords of Flatbush" last night, starring Sylvester Stallone and Henry Winkler as members of a teenage street gang in 50's-era New York. Pretty standard greaser flick with fights, girl trouble, run-ins with wise guys, etc...

Not bad overall, but doesn't come close to my favorite 50's gang film, "The Wanderers."

That movie was the reason the Fonz wore a leather jacket in Happy Days. The producers had a grey cloth jacket for him, he thought it was lame, Winkler went back and got the jacket from Lords of Flatbush and the rest is history.

Watched 1975's Night Moves last night, starring Gene Hackman as a private investigator hired by an aging starlet to find her runaway 16-year old daughter. They really don't make movies like this anymore, movies for adults. If you're at all into neo-noir, I highly recommend it.

I highly recommend the 2020 movie Danish movie "Riders of Justice". Mads Mikkelson stars as a special forces badass who through circumstance ends up with some very unlikely heroes as compatriots in taking revenge on a gang.

I am hoping for the best with Ryan Gosling's Fall Guy coming out soon.
The series was silly with superb old school practical effects and the movie trailer promises the same.

I had such a crush on Lee Majors as a kid because of that show. I was young, too, young enough I had to negotiate a later bedtime to watch it. I often wonder if stuff like that and the early Arnold movies (Conan, Commando) are what happened to my taste in men, movies, and vehicles. Whatever it was it gelled early, lol.

Re-watched Angel Heart the other night with a friend who had never seen it. De Niro's Louis Cyphere is a striking performance, imo. Understated, and scary because of the subtlety. The scene where he peels and eats the egg is just amazing to me. So much communicated in movements and looks rather than lines. As I get older I appreciate the period scenery, too. It has that "noir detective" feel to it.

Watched "The Reckoning" (1970) last night, awesome British movie about an Irishman who has made his way into the posh circles of the London business world, only to have to return home to Liverpool when his dad dies and consider avenging his death when he discovers he may have been killed by a local thug.

This is a really, really good movie, made strictly for adults. Free on Tubi.

I've seen a few trusted reviewers make similar comments about Napoleon, obviously many historical liberties taken, but it's really about Josephine the strong empowered female rather then Napoleon. Can anyone confirm?
