It's been a while since I've seen it, but I think it was pretty close.

Alien: Romulus was much, much better than I thought. It basically follows the same formula as the first film and adds to it. There is a ton of practical effects, and the CGI is minimalistic and unnoticeable. The lighting and photography are key to the atmosphere. They add new elements of suspense to the story, my fiancé was gripping my arm so intensely that it nailmarks. I have a feeling this board will enjoy it. See it in theaters if you can, IMAX preferably. It's a solid 7.5/10.

I forgot where I heard the recommendation from, might have been the last movies podcast. But Ransom with Mel Gibson is fantastic. I put it on with the Wife as background music almost and we were enthralled from start to finish. Rene Russo is a hell of an actress next to Mel as well. Just another fantastic movie from the golden age of 1995-2000. Up untill the apparently legally mandated antagonist/protagonist fist fight at the end of the movie, the plot and writing was magnificent. We normally get quite a bit of enjoyment out of finding plot points or contrivances "this happens to the movie can happen" but there was none. Fantastic movie.

In light of the most recent podcast, I’d submit:

    Caper flicks:

Guy Richie’s Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch.

    Spy flicks:

The recent The Man from U.N.C.L.E. remake if anything because Henry Cavill is in it.

Payback with Mel Gibson is also pretty entertaining.

I love that movie. It's based on a book which is also good but, damn, Gibson was just so perfect for that character.

Rip, I heard on the recent podcast that you hadn't seen Joker. I'd add to the recommendation to watch it. It is uncomfortable to watch but a great film and you wont notice the time going past. You'll love robert de niro in this one too.

I really enjoyed Silverado and Dredd thanks for the recomendation. Dredd reminded me of The Raid I think I mentioned here before.

Rewatched the Simon Pegg trilogy Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End over the past week. Highly recommended.

I've seen The Italian Job remake mentioned but the original from 1969 starring Michael Caine is much, much better. Amazing soundtrack by Quincy Jones. Just one of the most fun movies I've watched in a long time.

Land of Bad (available on Netflix). Stars Liam Hemsworth as an Air Force JTAC tagging along on a special operations mission. Short story is that shit goes down and he has to escape. Russel Crowe is a drone pilot on the other end guiding him. I can't say how realistic or accurate it is, but its some machismo fun.
