I've only had one Texas Chicken Fried Steak experience and that was at Goodson's in Tomball just outside of Houston. It was pretty damn good and I was told it's the best around.

Why is it called Chicken Fried Steak? Is it fried with the help of chickens? Is it fried in chicken parts? I always called it Country Fried Steak.

Country Fried Steak is what Grandy's calls it. And, you are a Yankee.

Pretty sure straight beef tallow would yield a crispier product.

I had a life-changing chicken fried steak somewhere out in west Texas near Fort Stockton about 20 years ago. Had a fried egg on top. Wish I could remember the name of the place.

I had thought it meant that it's fried in the style of chicken.

I hail from the People's Republik of New Yorkistan and I have never referred to it as "country-fried"...

It's floured like fried chicken... so it's chicken-fried...
