Here's a video about my old buddy George Hechter, a good friend of myself and Jim Moser.

Great vid! and they both look like they've aged well in that picture of George and Ed Coan. It mentioned that it was hard to find much about his programming, but George is mentioned by Bill Starr here: The Tight Tan Slacks of Dezso Ban: Hepburns - Bill Starr.

Remember him being on the cover of PL USA back in the late 80's, if I recall. It was after he went from supers to 242 and looked absolutely jacked.

I believe I remember you talking about him with Marty Gallagher in one of those old interviews. Somewhat off topic; but what is the Maryland style deadlift they mention? I’m assuming from the photos they show it is with the feet very close together, but am just generally curious about it.

That's it. Vince Annello used it too, called it the "frog stance" according to Starr.

A retro of George and I in 1979 before going to the teenage nationals. Harford County Maryland was home to a group of us Starr trainees. Starr taught us to train heavy and consistent. These were the keys to not only get strong, but to getting really strong. George is one of the strongest men I ever met. George remains a good friend and was one of my first training partners. A couple of years later Starr invited us to Grand Prairie, Texas. It was there at the 1981 World Championships we met Starr’s good friend Rip. As they say, the rest is history, and a lot of it.

Nick had me take a “frog stance” back in April at the seminar.

Why did he make you do that?
