I know this issue has been rehashed before but I'm not able to find anything that works.

For the past several months I've been having IT Band pain in my left leg that also affects my hip. I've used 2 different foam rollers with no luck. I had a deep massage that relieved some of the discomfort for a few weeks but it only delayed the onset. It's really affecting the depth of my squats and because of the discomfort I tend to not drop down below parallel unless someone points it out. Ive been able to work on lighter weights during the warmups but once I get to my working weight (230lbs at the moment) then I fear that I won't be able to recover if I drop further than 3/4.

I'm at a loss as to how to fix this issue. I've done searching over the internet and find conflicting information. One sight tells you to foam roll or do some kooky exercise while another tells you that you could hang a car from it so rolling it does nothing.

I'm looking for suggestions on how to get past this debilitating problem.

    Hi,

I've had IT band related pain on and off for years. About the only thing I've found that does any good is time off from any movement or thing that irritates it. That includes training or seemingly innocuous things like sleeping on the affected side. Sometimes for long periods of time. Like 4-6 weeks.

Since it recurs, I obviously haven't figured out exactly what is aggravating it....

    Hey there.

Currently battling with this too. It actually started in early August while I was doing LP and it seems that it will never heal.

Getting an IT band release by a big massage therapist is often advised. I have not found one yet :-(

Thanks for the reply. This is one of the most frustrating conditions I've had to deal with. I'm currently taking prescription NSAIDs for another ailment I had and it's subdued it but I will soon run out of that. I've managed to power through it the last few workouts but it's extremely frustrating. It bothers me just walking up and down stairs.

This may be a shot in the dark, but have you tried acupuncture?

Have not tried it yet but I have been considering it. Never had acupuncture done before.

You might swap out the foam roller for a 4" PVC pipe. Takes the pain up a few notches.

That was the first step I tried. It worked to a point but did not completely get rid of it.

I've had some issues with my IT band as well. I haven't gotten rid of it, but I have found that stretching the muscles that connect to the IT band at the hip and glutes, alleviates some of the discomfort. My IT band issues are not severe, though, so I don't know if it will help. Also, getting Active Release Therapy done by a competent practitioner should also help (I haven't tried it as there are no competent practitioners around me).

Didn't know that was a thing until you mentioned it. I found a specialist nearby, it will be a week before I can get in but hopefully that helps.

    Thanks for the info.
