Strength training for artistic gymnasts
Hi,
Does anybody has an experience with supplemental strength training for artistic gymnasts (males)?
-
Are you asking if there is a special program for artistic gymnastics?
-
I'm mainly seeking for comprehensive programming advice, trying to figure out a cautious accommodation of basic strength program to the gymnasts training schedule, that includes multiple competitions and training camps abroad.
To the best of my knowledge, US is one of the only nations that implements ST to artistic gymnastics athletes training program. Our gymnasts were only recently supplemented with one instructed session of ST a week, with an optional second independent session.
Hence, I assume that strength sessions should be based on individual LP, though I'm aware that these sessions won't be steady due to their schedule, and that stress-adaptation-recovery cycle won't ever be optimal.
I'd appreciate any advice regarding optimizing SSLP program to such conditions.

What are your lifts/BW/age/height?

I did some artistic gymnastics during university, mainly highbar and parallels, at an very amateur level.
It is an enormous disadvantage if your lower body gets too heavy. The same accounts for your overall overweight.
Imho the starting strenght approach would be counterproductive.

1. 29y; 1.67m; 64 kg; opener lifts: Squat: 70kgX5; Press: 22.5kgX5; Deadlift: 60kgX5;
2. 21y; 1.60m; 63 kg; opener lifts: Squat: 60kgX5; Press 25kgX5; Deadlift: 60kgX5;
Both have shoulder girdle mobility limitations due to functional kyphosis, forcing a relatively wide grip while back squatting and a high-bar barbell position.

You are actually two people?

Sorry, I thought you were referring to the gymnasts
I'm a 31y female, 1.63m, 65kg.
Squat: 87.5kg, deadlift: 127kg, press: 35kg, bench: 50kg.
I've been training myself and general public clients for about three years now.
Have not experienced training professional athletes so far.

The principles in PPST3 apply to all athletes. If they are practicing the sport all week, the strength training provided by the NLP is the only other thing necessary.

I'm on it.
Thank you very much!
