All heavy pulls that are heavy enough to be considered heavy pulls are done for one work set. If they are heavy enough, the low back in the last rep will not stay in good extension, and subsequent sets will not be quality work.
I promise I’m not trying to be a dumbass. Yes I’ve read blue and gray books.
Are Halting DLs worksets 1x8 or 3x8?
Are Rack Pulls 1x5 or 3x5?
In other words programmed like a Deadlift work set 1x5 or since they are partials we go 3x5?
55 years old, experimenting with Minimum Effective Dose. Thank you

Tiger: Similar age here. To add to what Rip said, he's also moved over the years to recommending a set of 5 for HDLs, not 8 anymore. When I made that change, it worked noticeably better for me, and without beating the snot out of me as badly.
Full disclosure: I'm doing the HDLs at a deficit, too, so it that made them even harder on my lower back. The reduced volume really made a difference.
Perfect. Making the complex understandable.
Thank you!
