Maybe 1-pound jumps are the answer.
Hi,
since I could not a find an answer on this forum, I shall ask it with this post:
I have heard about the proposal for transitioning from 3x5 on the press to any set and rep combination so long it consists of 15 reps total and there are sets that are of 3 or more reps.
My question is: will this work for the bench too? I have applied this modification to my press a few weeks ago and works wonderfully - I am no longer afraid of losing a rep and having to deload. I am still capable of progressing with 3x5 on the bench with 2.5lbs increments, but I feel like soon it will be over.
Maybe 1-pound jumps are the answer.
I work out at my uni gym with plates that vary all the time, you reckon the 1 pound increases won't be within the margin of error of weight differences between the plates?
If you don't have control over the plates, 1-pound jumps are not feasible.
In which case, is the 15 total reps scheme feasible?
You can buy a fractional plate set on Amazon for cheap and keep it in your gym bag. I have a set with 1s, .75s, .5s, and .25s.
