I was wondering if its a detriment to your training to stay up 24 hours (on a rest day), but then sleeping 10 or so and just moving your schedule ahead a day.

Why would you want to that? It is when you rest that you recover from the training. You cannot have it both ways.

Pulling an all-nighter is less than ideal for mental and physical performance. It will also definitely do bad things to your recovery abilities. In the grand scheme of things, doing it once will have one of two outcomes: you'll fail to make your planned workout or you'll make your planned workout (or string of workouts, depending on what sort of complex programming you're on). I think it'll definitely increase the probability of the former. Beyond that, well, it all depends on a lot of things.

"to stay up 24 hours (on a rest day)"

I'm not sure you know what "rest" means.

Doing it once probably isn't going to harm things in the long run. Making it a habit will.

I did it a few times when I was going through undergrad, not the best idea, but I was still able to have a productive session.

Thats not cool!, when you drink spirits you overload the liver while it tries to detoxify the body, and the effect is cumulative. Weight training and alcohol do not mix mate. Give it it away and stay clean.
