Is this too long? I feel like this is how long I need between sets now that weights are getting heavier.

I just took ten minutes between my top squat set and my backoff set today.

I pay no attention to people telling me this is all wrong. As long as I'm getting the weight up and getting stronger, I'm happy with it. And I feel more confident knowing my ATP is fully replenished.

They either mis-assume your goals or are not privy to our analysis if they tell you it's wrong. The way to get stronger is to get your damn sets/reps done (unless you're doing a program where density needs to be controlled or manipulated). You're both doing it right. Carry on, lads!

Between very heavy sets, I'll rest up to 10 minutes. I don't do it all the time, and I don't think most people should either. You'll get stronger and use your time more efficiently if you're not always using weights that require you to do this.

I dont know, but is there a limit to rest? I noticed that if I rest to long, the energy kind of just drops, I get weaker and the weight feels so much heavier. That is always when the rest is longer than 10 min maybe up to 15min.?

I rest 6 min. between sets on volume day (5x5), and 8 min. between sets on intensity day (1RM, 5RM).

This strikes a balance for me between time and recovery. I will rest longer if I feel like it.

As written elsewhere, the goal is to get stronger by completing the sets. The goal is not conditioning (though I expect work capacity gets trained on volume day).

On the boards, Rip has actually said 20 minutes was fine ... when you are squatting 500 lbs.

Common sense is what you have to go by. 500 lbs needs more time than 135 lbs. 120 degree weather needs more time than a nice breezy 70. Etc.

Just don't let yourself get cold. Injuries happen.

    This.
For example, today I squatted 5x6+x75%. I used 4 minutes of rest for the first four sets and then 8 for my last set so I could get a solid plus set. I try to always keep a timer going or pay attention to the clock so I can be aware.
