Probably death. More seriously, there is not good reason for geezers to do 20 rep squats except for ego. We are at a stage where volume can be non-beneficial and even counterproductive. We want to work the muscles and not the joints so much.

Yeah not bad, buy it pales in comparison to departing the mortal coil whilst being in the "saddle".

I did them in my late 30's and early 40's. Beyond brutal but productive. I wouldn't recommend them for geezers unless you went the really old school methods of Roger Eells and stuck with deep breathing no more than bodyweight squats. Maybe not even that much.

about a year ago, I tried to do them ( I am 54 and a very lousy squatter). Dan John had a workout where you did 50 squats with body weight on the bar without setting it down. I used 90% of BW and did 28 - I chose not to go forward on that particular challenge. Going to start mixing them back into my training - think they are good for mental toughness.

    20 Rep Squats

This is a great exercise, no matter you age. This method has been around for decades because it works.

It an effective method of increasing leg muscle mass.

A set of 20 Rep Squats is also brutal.

    VO2 Max

An ancillary benefit is an increase in your VO2 max.

In the interest of science I just did twenty atg air squats, which made my legs hurt. I might have a go - working up slowly - once I'm back up to speed with fives after yet another annoying four week layoff.
