so just coming off a wrist surgery and starting weight training. no real background in it just background in boxing/bjj/muay thai. im currently 5'10'' 160lbs. want to be about 175-180lbs would go for more but dont want to large of a cut to 155lbs for competition, what kind of numbers do you think the average person could be putting up at 180lbs?

First things first. You don't mention having a wrestling background so I have to ask. Do you have any experience with cutting weight? If not you will want to reconsider your goal competition weight. My opinion is do not put the cart before the horse. Get as strong as you can then lean down from whatever weight you are at to a weight class that will not deplete that strength you worked so hard to get. This advice is coming from over a decade of wrestling and cutting weight the wrong way then the right way.

I could go farther at 180, I feel like I could have got to 450/300/520ish by the end of this year, but I decided to move up to 200lb.

I didn't either, it's hard to bulk for the first couple weeks, but once your stomach expands it gets easier.

how tall are you? It's not just about weight but also about lever angles and the like. If you're 6'2" at 155 lbs you NEED TO GAIN WEIGHT, on the other hand if you're 5'3" thats a different story. Either way the best thing to do in the beginning if you are going to compete is just try and get as jacked, eat and sleep alot-lift heavy-repeat, as possible, don't even worry about cutting weight for your first comp. just get it under your belt. You will have plenty to deal with and a ton of stress already no reason to make it anymore stressful than it has to be.
