Now that Arnold is a geezer (he's a year younger than me), and still lifting - and looking pretty darned good - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPnZxewFWyY - I was surprised to discover just how strong a guy he was:

    Clean and press – 264 lb (120 kg)[30]
    Snatch – 243 lb (110 kg)[30]
    Clean and jerk – 298 lb (135 kg)[30]
    Squat – 545 lb (247 kg)[30]
    Bench press – 440 lb (200 kg)[30]
    Deadlift – 710 lb (320 kg)[30]

Apparently in his day, powerlifting and body building weren't quite as distinct as they seem to be today.

I think Ronnie Coleman squats over 600lbs and deadlifts somewhere around 800. These guys are still strong.

Arnold was a disciple of Vince Gironda...who was so far ahead of his time that no one will catch up to him even today....if you never read about some of Vince's philosophies on training....you might find it interesting...

Back in those days..pre drugs....strenght was not exclusive from BB....if you do some history reading....those guys did mostly big compound lifts for a long time before they ever thought of doing isolation shit....their belief was....did you ever see big branches on a skinny tree? Nowadays....modern mag's (bullshit) make it seem like if you take enough shit all you need is isolation machines.....I loathe the modern mags....

Stuff like Breathing Squats & Milk was very common....20 rep squats built very large men...

Of course the superhumanlymassive guys are strong. But Ronnie was stronger than most, because Ronnie had a background as a competitive powerlifter and believed in lifting "heavy ass weight." Many today don't, or don't pay as much attention to it as they did in Arnold's day, or like Ronnie did.

Yeah, Vince called him Fat-Ass when he first looked at him. I have to say though lou, Gironda's training was more counterproductive for a lot of folks unless they were willing to resort to some Vitamin S to recover from all those sets and reps.

Arnold wasn't quite in the pre-drug era. If he hadn't been juicing in Austria, he certainly did when he hit the Land of the Big PX.

    Fixed it.

Also, Columbo was an even bigger (not literally, though) beast.

Clean and press – 325 lb
    Snatch – 270 lb
Clean and jerk – 400 lb
    Squat – 655 lb
    Bench press – 525 lb
    Deadlift – 750 lb

That's a single ply inzer hardcore suit isn't it? I love how he doesn't even take a moment to just drop straight into the second rep.

I'm sorry lou. My remarks were a little harsh and I didn't mean to slag on you.

I haven't liked that guy since I saw him talking shit about his "buddy" Franco Columbu in the movie Pumping Iron. The subsequent revelations about his philandery and his political gutlessness as Der Govenatah only confirmed my opinion.

Nonetheless, my response to your post was poorly worded and impulsive. We good?
