Default Squat and the hip drive

    Hello Rip.
I've noted recently that my drive out of the bottom of the squat becomes easier when I think "hips back and up" instead of just "hips up". Why do you think it feels better?
    Thanks

Oftentimes, what we think we're doing and what we're actually doing are two different things. I wouldn't care to speculate about your hips without seeing them in action.

    I got some footage today.
From what I can see my hip drive is causing an excessive horizontal back angle and the knees are going a bit too far forward... What do you think?

These aren't terrible. Knee travel forward needs to be earlier, and hips will drive more up than back when you start back up. Pages 51-56.

Thank you. I will work on that.

I've noted now on the video that even with weightlifting shoes the heels almost come out of the floor at the bottom...
Do you think a winder stance would be benificial to avoid knee slide at the bottom?

No, you have to control your knees and hips.

Do you think that my knees go too far forward or is it that the knee travel is just not early enough?
