Hi coach. Sorry if this is a double post: the other one was lost when I clicked on the submit button.

I introduced SS to my dad a few months ago. He never did any sort of sport in his life but seems to appreciate it.

He has a very poor shoulder mobility, which prevents him from doing squats, as he cannot go under the bar.

His deadlift is ok: 220 lbs for a bodyweight of 182 lbs.

Yesterday, he told me that he had marks on his shoulders due to the deadlift "pulling" them too hard. He has no pain. Here is a picture.

What is your opinion on that? What can I do now?

    Thanks coach.

I think you are confusing the skin on your dad's shoulders for his muscles. Skin is on top of muscles, and you usually can't see through it to the muscles beneath. This looks to me like some broken capillaries. I have no idea what might have caused them. The deadlift did not. He will be fine.

This looks like stretch marks to me. Are they itchy?

Ok. Thanks for the quick reply.

He is adamant that it is because of the deadlift. He told me "it stretched" his shoulder to much. Anyway, I'll tell him to keep on with his good progress.
    Again, thanks for your time.

I get marks like this all the time. On my upper back from squatting or benching and on my delts from power cleans.

Looks like the seam of his shirt was compressed in the shoulder. I used to get this from using a calf raise machine with heavy weights. (that I haven't used since finding ss)

I get marks like that sometimes when my shirt has seams where the bar sits while squatting. Mine are further back and to the outside where the arm of the shirt is sewn to the rest. Is he high-bar-squatting? Because this looks like it may have been caused by the seam on top of the shoulders.

I used to get those when I used to go to the Globo gym. Say real heavy standing calves raises, leg presses, or stupid squat machine where the pads rest on your shoulders. . . .your shirt get wrinkled right there under the pad of the machine. Most T-shirts also have a stitched seem right there. I would imagine a padded SSB would do this also. . . .they go away with in a day or two.

It seems too soon for stretch marks.
