Trapezius Injury
Coach,
A couple of weeks ago I noticed a sharp pain to the left of my neck when deadlifting, it only happened on one rep and I finished the set without a problem.
I noticed this again last week (tues) when doing cleans, except much more painful. I got pretty worried at the severity of the pain and how it was right beside my spine, so I went to the (sports) Dr. the next day. She thinks that I strained my trapezius muscle and suggested doing shrugs and seated rows so that my traps weren't the "weak link" when cleaning/DLing. Her diagnosis made sense to me since it is only really painful when I am heavily straining the muscle and all the spine/nerve tests she did weren't a problem.
When warming up for DLs (335 work) on thurs I felt pain at 225, so i packed it in. I am seeing a Chiro on Friday to get ART (rx'd by doc) and an additional opinion.
Is this common? I have no pain in any of the other lifts, or with pullpus, or weighted pullups.
Starr rehab has worked well for me in the past, but I'm not sure if it is as appliciable here or if doing it with DLs would be appropriate over some other exercise directly aimed at the trapezius like shrugs or rows as she recommended.
Thanks.

This will be an expensive way for you to learn about minor neck and back tweaks. We all deal with these, but you'll need to learn a cheaper way, because it will happen again.
