    Default not sure that I'm doing it right

    Here's my latest lifting logs:

    10/9/16:
    squats: 5 x 115, 5 x 185 (felt pain so I stopped since it's been so long)
    bench: 5 x 135, 5 x 155, 5 x 185

    10/16/16:
    squats: 5 x 45, 5 x 135, 5 x 185, 5 x 205, 5 x 215
    bench: 5 x 135, 5 x 155, 5 x 165, 4 x 185
    power clean: 5 x 115 (stopped - left wrist pain)

    10/18/16:
    squat: 5 x 135, 5 x 185, 5 x 205, 5 x 215, 5 x 220
    press (dumbells): 5 x 70, 5 x 90, 5 x 110
    dead lift: 5 x 135, 5 x 225, 5 x 230

    10/20/16:
    squat: 5 x 45, 5 x 135, 5 x 185, 5 x 225, 5 x 245
    bench: 5 x 45, 5 x 115, 5 x 185
    power clean: 5 x 45, 5 x 115, 5 x 135

    10/21/16:
    (wasn't "sore enough" the next day so I went downstairs after a few beers & did a few bench presses - 5x120, 5 x 170, 4 x 190, 1 x 200, 1 x 210)

    10/22/16:
    squat: 5 x 30, 5 x 120, 5 x 210, 5 x 250, 4 x 250 (felt small tinge of pain near my 3/2/16 injury so I stopped)
    press: 5 x 115, 3 x 135, 5 x 125
    dead lift: 5 x 120, 5 x 210, 5 x 240, 5 x 240

    10/24/16: my body weight: 239.8#
    squat: 5 x 45, 5 x 135, 5 x 225, 5 x 245, 5 x 255
    bench: 5 x 45, 5 x 135, 5 x 185, 5 x 195, 5 x 195
    power clean: 5 x 30, 5 x 130, 5 x 140, 2 x 140

    ...

    I've read the book but it's been a while....I've been thumbing through it a little & watching the videos. I suppose my confusion comes in here:

    "*Sets here include only work-sets, not warm-up sets. I also noticed I'm doing too many deadlift sets.

    I pretty much stopped lifting 12/2014 or so, then 3/2/16 I re-injured my back while skiing (fell in the terrain park - aggravated an old injury from ~20 years ago).

    I was torn up for a while.... X-rays showed no injury but had degenerative disc disease. Anyway, I walked into my basement weight room around 3 weeks ago and did a few deadlifts to see how the body was healing..... a week later I'm researching racks. The Sunday before last I drew up a rack, finally figured it out, and somehow after work on Monday I had a bunch of 3x3 tubing on my driveway. Cut & welded it, then was using it by the next Monday I think.



    I dragged the pieces on & tacked the feet in place - that proved to be unnecessary



    I'd have built it taller, I have to use my old bench outside to do presses. The whole room is too small @ 8' 7" x 9' 4", but it works.

    Yeah, something looks wrong. Work set is (weight)*5reps*3sets

    You should reread the book. The 3rd edition.

    I think I found what I was looking for in chapter 8. I was way off!

    I'll have to back my final set down I'm sure, and I'll try empty bar to my medium weight for the warm-up and see how that works.

    Edit - another thing I'm doing wrong is working out every-other day instead of M-W-F. I'll do it like that as much as possible.

    How much time do other novices usually take per workout? I was ~35-45 minutes at the gym in 2014, but today I spent an hour.

    It takes me about an hour. Nice welding.

    You should spend as much time as it takes for you to recover from the previous set and not feel fatigued from it.
