I am 59 years old and started training at the age of 20. Have literally not stopped training since. Did a little bodybuilding and powerlifting in my late 20's and early 30's. After reading Starting Strength and Practical Programming I realized that I have been over-training for decades. Following the reading of those books I changed my routine to the novice protocol for around three months and then switched to the Texas Method.

Having shoulder surgery in two weeks for a full supraspinatus tear and a partial infraspinatus tear. Down the road once I get the go ahead from the surgeon to return to full activity, I am wondering if I should go back to the novice method until I hopefully regain my strength to pre-injury levels or utilize the Texas Method from the outset?

    Thank you for you time.

It will be more complicated that that, I'm afraid. Call me sometime and we'll talk about it.
