HLM interpretations - alter volume instead of intensity
Dear Coach!
I like the HLM “method” (I’ve done Andy Bakers HLM classic and can recommend it).
By the way ,I’m a 50 years old competitive lifter (WDFPF).
The simplest interpretation, for people who just love them some 5X5 is just alter the intensity of the days, isn’t it?
So, if the heavy is 100% (let’s says it’s 225lbs/100kg) 5x5x100kg, light day might be 80% (80kg) 5x5x80kg and medium day 90% 5x5x90kg (sets x reps). Andy Baker, by the way, advises 5x5 on HD, 3x5 on LD and 4x5 on MD.
For older (and stronger) lifters he recommended 4x5 on HD, 2x5 on LD and 3x5 on MD.
However, there is also another interpretation. To alter the volume instead of the intensity.
So, if the HD is 4x5x100kg, LD might be 2x5x100kg and MD 3x5x100.
Is this variant also recommended?
Many thanks and kind regards,
Rene Hamers.
