20 rep squats - frequency
For 20 rep squats, is it better to do it once a week and increase by 10 pounds per week, or twice a week and 5 pounds per workout? I have a hunch that for more advanced people, it would behoove them to go with lower frequency for 1x20 work sets, and do some other squat work on the other days.

Do you think a 5x5 later in the week after 1x20 would help in strength, or be too much for recovery?

Its hard to say. I know I could do it but I respond well to high reps. I like single and doubles paired with 20s more than 5s though. I do at least 3 sets of 20 though.

Im always surprised at the popularity of the extremes of rep ranges. Reps 1-5 are popular around here, then people jump straight to 20. Whats the matter with 6, 8, 10, 12, 15 etc?

For me, 12s are the best. Heavy 12s.

Doing 6-19 reps? Say goodbye to your gains.

Once per week or you'll die. It's a short term program, anyway, so it doesn't matter that much, but you need an entire week to recover (or you're not squatting enough that doing 20 rep squats is anything other than a silly waste of time).
