    Hi Mark from the UK!

I am a complete believer in SS and have a full setup in my garage. I was coached many years ago and how to lift is ingrained in my brain. But I now want to get my 55 year old wife who has never lifted and had a microdisectomy lifting as I think it will really help her overcome her fears of lifting things and help sort her lower back pain out.

Where do you start with someone in her position if they walked into your gym?

Any pointers would be most appreciated.

    Justin

You start very light -- if she wants to do it.

She certainly does, but is a little apprehensive. What for example, would your prerequisite be before an empty barbell squat or deadlift was attempted?

Surgery was five years ago. She weighs 9 stone and is 5'5" tall. Aside from walking she hasn't been one for exercise.

You can beat her until she agrees to obey you. Take her to the gym and beat her till she gets under the bar. Don't let up if she cries, it will just be an act. There is precedent for this as it is done all over the world.

If it was me, I'd just leave her alone.
