    Hello!

    33yrs Old. Also: Bald.

OldAndBald lives in Fargo, ND — just south of Downtown — with his wife, two kids, and a cat that all seem to like him more than he probably deserves. When not writing Facebook status updates or lifting things up and putting them back down he, well, he used to do something productive. He's pretty sure he still gets a paycheck every couple weeks. He should probably check on that.

    Let's do it.

    Warmup
    -----
    3:00min on the Concept2 (~500m/25spm/damper 3)

    Squat
    -----
    45x5x2
    95x5x1
    135x3x1
    145x3x1
    155x1x1
    145x5x3

    Notes
    -----
Getting used to the YMCA's free weight area, finding my way around, trying to remember what I read in SS3 and watched on the DVD regarding squat form. I lifted heavy things growing up on the family farm. I lifted barbells in a gym for a couple years about 10 years ago. I didn't have any idea what I was doing, except that Frederic Delavier's book Strength Training Anatomy clearly showed that if I did the Squat and the Deadlift I'd be working out almost every muscle in my body. So I did those, plus bench presses and various curls to target the chesticles and armsticles.

    Warmup
    -----
    2000m row (damper 3):
    3min @ 20spm - 1min rest - 3min @ 22spm - 1min rest - 3min @ 24spm - 1min rest - 3min @ 24spm - 3min rest - 5min @ 24spm
    Waaay too much "warmup".

    Squat
    -----
    45x5x2
    75x5
    100x3
    130x2
    155x5x3

    Press
    -----
    45x5x2
    75x2
    55x5
    65x3
    85x5
    85x4
85x3 <- terrible form on last rep, barely got it back on the rack

    Notes
    -----
As a result of that weight lifting plus spending every Sunday during NFL season eating dozens of hot wings, drinking kegs of beer, and spending more time tracking fantasy football stats than turns out is health, 10 years ago I went from ~170lbs to ~220lbs and ~15% body fat to >30%.

    Warmup
    -----
    500m row (3:15), damper 5, ~22-25spm

    Squat
    -----
    45x5x2
    75x5
    100x3
    130x2
145x5x3 <- dropped 10 because watching the video I was not getting anywhere close to parallel, let alone below, my wrists were carrying weight, and my back was bending.

    Press
    -----
    45x5x2
    55x5
    65x3
    75x2
85x5x3 <- much better; should have waited a little longer before the last set of 5, but got it up and back down.

    Dead
    -----
    145x5x1

I got a new job consulting, which had me traveling all over the country all the time. You just can't strength train in cheap hotel "exercise" rooms. You're lucky if their crappy treadmill actually works. And your diet goes to shit. I went to 250lbs and >30% body fat.

    33 = Old. Heh.

At 46, I better start getting a formaldehyde drip so I don't stink up the room with my decaying corpse.

Hah. You're not even close to joining us in the rest of this lot:

I'm guessing at 33 you look more like:

except you are bald. We can't help with that.

You can still tag along with the old farts but I'm not sure that you'll qualify for the secret hand shake for a while.

Seriously, ask plenty of questions. We'll pull your leg a bit but set you straight, too.

    No warmup

    -----

Knees take forever to warmup for squats. I'm only finally getting to parallel by the time I'm on my work sets. They feel stiff during deadlifts too.

Gym was completely full on Monday night, with a waiting line for the power racks. Wouldn't have got in before the gym closed for the night.

Moved to Fargo, ND 6.5 years ago. One of the flattest places on the planet, running is HUGE here. I got sucked into the religion. As a result I am now a running atheist. I hate it. If I never run again in my life I'll be very happy.
