Cervical Spinal Fusion Recovery
Mark,
I attempted a site search and found a post in which you stated you had a cervical spinal fusion done, but I couldn't find any others dealing with the issue. A family member, who was previously very athletic, has had a diagnosis of severe cervical spine degeneration which was likely causing his recent neuropathy in the legs and some of his fingers. He is scheduled for a fusion soon.
He told me the surgeon told him not to lift anything heavier than 10 lbs the first month, 20 the second, and 30 the third. I thought this seemed very restrictive, and my gut instinct is getting him to lift again as soon as possible would be the best thing. Maybe you and Sully (or another doc) could weigh in and help with some questions.
What were your experiences with recovery and returning to lifting?
What is the likelihood of a fusion breaking or failing to properly graft, especially in the context of starting to lift?
Thanks for any response on the matter.

This is too complex a topic for this venue. There are many variables. If you'd like to discuss it with, I'll be happy to talk to you.
